Have you ever attended a pity party? I certainly have. Joyce Meyer said that she decided not to attend this kind of party anymore!
Elisabeth Elliot, widow of martyred missionary Jim Elliot, said this:
“Self-pity is a death that has no resurrection, a sinkhole from which no rescuing hand can drag you because you have chosen to sink.”
And to use another analogy, someone said that self-pity is crying on the Devil’s shoulder. It makes him happy when we question what God, in His sovereignty, allows in your life and mine.
When we get that mental invitation to feel sorry for ourselves, by God’s good grace, RSVP: “Not available. Take me off any future pity party lists.”
