Do you ever long for simplicity in a world of complexity? Dr. Atul Gawande wrote a book called: The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right. (a wonderful read)

He describes how surgical procedures had much safer outcomes (as in fewer deaths!) if the medical teams followed simple checklists. Dr. Gawande visited the Boeing company and found that pilots have been doing this for years: flying planes safely using checklists of procedures.

While life and relationships have an ebb and flow that makes a checklist seem too dry and limiting, there is something to be said for consistency and accountability. I know that I need it. Before I “start the engine” of my day, this checklist could help guide my choices as I go about all my other tasks.

  • Pray.

  • Encourage someone.

  • Be grateful.

  • Express awe of God’s beautiful world.

  • Look for humor and laugh – especially at myself.

What could be on your checklist each day?
