Stress. A carnival ride like “Tilt-O-Whirl" seems amusing in that setting, but when real life starts to move us that way, it is dizzying, disturbing, and disruptive. We long for the gentle ride called “Lazy River.”

A study from University of California at Berkeley with military veterans and underserved youth found something that reduced their symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Of note was their responses to nature. See: https://news.berkeley.edu/2018/07/12/awe-nature-ptsd/

Of all the emotions such as joy, pride, amusement, or contentment, the one that most increased their sense of well-being was awe.

King David said that “the heavens are telling the glory of God and the firmament proclaims His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)

And the writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us that God has put eternity in our hearts and minds.(Chapter 3:11) We are made to worship (“to ascribe worth”) to the One Who made us.

                                              Moon Over Colorado

Pristine, proud, pearl of a moon

Watching over the valley,

Sliding silently across the navy-blue sky.

No wonder so much has been written

About this moon, with its ghostly white beauty.

The same one has shone

Over every town, city, battlefield, palace,

Farm, castle, and person in history.

So silly to make much of the moon,

And miss its Creator.                                        ©2018, Linda Neff
