“Being in a hurry…I cannot think of a single advantage I’ve ever gained from being in a hurry. But a thousand broken and missed things, tens of thousands, lie in the wake of all that rushing. Through all that haste, I thought I was making up time. It turns out I was throwing it away.”

(from “The Rest of God” by Mark Buchanan)

The old saying used to be: “haste makes waste.”

When we hurry, we waste:

Time to really listen, with our eyes, minds, and hearts all focused.

Time to savor a persimmon sunset, a fuscia flower, a purring cat.

Time to teach a toddler how to climb up and down stairs.

Time to laugh at someone’s funny story.

Time to dialogue with God.

Time to hear a baby giggle.

As a wise person said to me recently: “This moment is perfect.”
