Easter Sunday
Note: Mary of Magdala was a grateful follower and supporter of Jesus Christ. He cast out several demons that plagued her life. Like all of Jesus’s followers, she grieved that the man in whom she had trusted was brutally murdered. She watched His body be buried in the stone tomb belonging to Nicodemus, and be guarded by soldiers.
Perhaps because sleep eluded her, she woke in the dark on the third day after His death, and headed twice to the tomb.
Mary Magdalene
Night presses in on me,
Like sorrow squeezing my heart.
It was enough pain to watch Him die
A violent death.
But now to find that someone
Has taken His battered, bloody body somewhere;
I can hardly breathe.
I see the silent silhouette of a man –
Perhaps the gardener –
Near the door to Christ’s empty tomb.
My words blurt out, breathless, anxious, pleading:
“Tell me where you have put Him!”
I hear one word from this man: my name.“Mary”
His voice so full of life and love for me.
I fling myself at His feet, and worship.
He is alive, and I am His.
