Shirley Rice said this:

Once you have been loved by God, you are loved completely, and you do not need to grasp anymore.

What are some signs of “grasping”? I have known them too well:

  • Expecting that another person make me happy

  • Looking for a purchase, possession, or place to help me feel better

  • Comparing myself to others, favorably or not.

Oh, but when I pause long enough to hear God’s words of love to me…

  • I can serve others without needing to be noticed or thanked.

  • I am content with my looks, talents, roles.

  • I delight in finding ways to affirm the value of each person.

In our society, we assign value often based on its monetary price. Someone pays $300,000 for a special collector’s item (a certain baseball card, in one case) and they say “Wow! How valuable!”

Yet Christ paid for you and me with His life on the cross. Loved completely, we are. No more grasping. Of such value, price paid freely forever!
