January 5, 2020

Are you someone who uses January 1 of each year to make resolutions? Many resolutions focus on developing new habits. I have struggled to develop good habits all of my life. (By nature, I am spontaneous and undisciplined. Jesus still loves me, this I know!)

Enter a recent book that tops every one I have read on this topic:

Atomic Habits by James Clear

A few nuggets from James Clear to encourage you:

  • It is easy to overestimate the importance of one defining  moment and underestimate the value of making small improvements on a daily basis. (I just heard about a man whose fitness plan started out with doing 3 pushups while he waited for his morning shower to warm up. Last count he was doing about 40! This is the beauty of starting small and building momentum.)

  • But when we repeat one percent errors, day after day, by replicating poor decisions, duplicating tiny mistakes, and rationalizing little excuses, our small choices compound into toxic results.

  • Good habits make time your ally.

  • Bad habits make time your enemy.

God bless you as you develop good habits!
