Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, but inspire us with their courage in facing obstacles, and often in helping others.

   More than a century ago, a woman named Amy Carmichael, confronted child sex trafficking where she lived in India. Her mission station in Dohnavur grew to accommodate hundreds of rescued children.

   Prior to those years, Amy lived in Belfast, Ireland where she helped young girls who worked in mills, often for 14 hours and day and little pay or social status.

    Her work in India included opening a hospital for children. People opposed her work, but eventually she was able to see laws passed to protect children.

   After an accident, Amy had to spend the remaining 20 years of her life confined to a bed. From there, she wrote 37 books plus poems, which still bless readers today.

     She said: When I consider the cross of Christ, how can anything I do be called a sacrifice?”

    One of her many poems is this one:

All that grieves is but for a moment;

All that pleases is but for a moment;

Only the eternal is important.”
