Face it: some cultures are obsessed with faces. Face it: a beautiful face cannot make a close friend, mend a painful injury, mold a good character.
Years ago, I took part in a summer program for spiritual growth. One evening, a young woman on my team put her head in my lap, and sobbed about the price of being beautiful.
Prior to this, I had openly admired - and privately envied - her lovely face.
Between sobs she said:”All my life I have felt that people have only loved me for my looks. And I lost my virginity to a man who seduced me for my beauty, then left me.”
I wept for her. (And repented of ever wanting to have a gorgeous face.)
Ironically, my mother named me “Linda” which is Spanish for “pretty.” And God has given me a life promise from Isaiah 62:1-4 which reads, in part, “You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord.”
God is a beautiful God! Anyone held by His hand and full of His love and joy has the key to true, lasting beauty. For free!
