When my mother, at age 87, was tested and examined for her admission to a nursing home, several staff commented on her “blemish- and- bulge-free” feet. Many older people have bumpy, calloused feet from years of wear and tear, and also heredity.

Our feet are workhorses, unsung heroes in our daily lives, unless they hurt for some reason. Then we complain. Usually we just cover them up and expect them to do their job.

Jesus washed his followers’ feet on the eve of His own walk to His death on the Cross.

Years earlier, the prophet Isaiah proclaimed: “How beautiful are the feet of the messenger who brings the good news of peace and salvation.”

                                                                              (Isaiah 52:7 NLT)

Feet are beautiful because they carry a person who gives the beautiful message of God’s love. The apostle Paul, in his description of a believer’s spiritual armor, calls for us to put on the shoes of peace that come from the Good News.

This week, when you get dressed for the day, thank God for giving you feet, and let them bring you to those who need to hear the Good News.
