Have you seen them these days? Squirrels scurrying around, gathering nuts, and hiding them to eat in the winter.
If good memories are like those nuts, we need to collect them to feed our souls in wintry times of suffering and disappointment ahead.
Often we “race through” a wonderful moment and do not “store” it for future use.
What can we do instead?
Take an actual photo – easy to do with the cameras in our phones. Use these photos for musing and enjoying while waiting for anyone or anything.
Do NOT take a photo. Sound contradictory? Not really. Sometimes I find that frequent picture-snapping keeps me from just quietly absorbing the beauty and meaning of the moment. Photos are for seeing details, but absorbing the sounds, smells, tastes, and emotions of the time tends to imprint the memory on our hearts.
Make an audible recording and/or write in a journal.
Make a picture board collage to hang in our homes.
Tell the story of the event – which is just a series of moments. (Storytelling is a craft to be studied and practiced.)
