For awhile last April, it seemed our main survival skill was buying extra toilet paper. Gratefully, a better survival skill began to appear on the Web: Humor. Punchy, funny memes began to appear and I laughed.
A couple of months ago, my husband and I were driving down a country road. Ahead of us was a woman with a big hat driving a small car. Slowly. Indecisively. Finally, she chose to pass the car in front of her. Since there was no oncoming traffic, she pulled out into the left lane, giving the other car a wide (6 feet) berth. I wondered if she was social distancing, even in a car with the windows rolled up!
Thirty minutes later, we entered Guelph and passed a Tim Hortons drive through line up. Incredibly, several of the cars kept 6 feet back from the one ahead.
Did I miss a memo somewhere? Had the virus become so virulent that it could pass through glass and metal? Is that why I still see people driving down the road with their masks on?
I hope they also have a year’s supply of toilet paper in the back seat…
